Always said it was virtually impossible to fall out of a side saddle - famous last words. The Wonder Horse and his rider out hunting last week. Coming out of a jump she lost her balance and started to tip out to the off-side. The WH tried to hich her back into place but her leg had come off the pommel and she shot right over to the nearside, landing on her hands and knees at the feet of a photograpther from a well-known magazine. He picked her up, dusted her off and threw he back up and she galloped off with a vey red face hoping he had not had the presence of mind to capture the preceedings on the camera for posterity!

Oh dear, poor girl  :D :(

I did a day course on Side Saddle and the first thing that we were told was that it's very difficult to come off. One of the first things that my friend, a good rider astride, did was to come off at trot! To this day we don't know how she did it ....

Here in the country it is also common belief that it is 'impossible' to fall off a traditional portuguese saddle. Well, it isn't true. I've seen a horse bolting and trowing his rider to the ground- very nasty fall, as the rider didn't come of promptly...

On the contrary, Horsey1, the Wonder Horse's hunting rider and I get on very well. The Wonder Horse is mine but I don't jump and he loves his hunting so she rides him. The WH is his joke name on the yard because he's such a sweetie and I am obsessed with his wonderful qualities.
