Out of Interest, has anyone used a McTimoney practicioner? Was the treatment success full? And roughly how much was charged?
I know the nearest one to us (Jill Firth) so if anyone has used her it would be extremly useful..
For anyone who's interested this is Jill's website - www.back-in-balance.co.uk

Hello,
I used a Mctimoney Chiropractor on Arnie a few months ago. She cost £35 for the treatment but was there about 45 minutes so I thought that was reasonable.
Arnie had been in a real mess before she treated him and it was certainly a success. He is now much freer behind and is able to do stuff that he would never have been capable of before. I will now have 3-monthly treatments to keep on top of it, but I have to do so because his back problem is chronic. I think the norm is 6 monthly if the problems aren't too serious.
Can definitely recommend it for improvement and Arnie seemed to enjoy it too :D

We use one who charges £35 for the initial consultation (takes longer as she has to take their history, check saddle, see horse lunged/ridden) then £25 for follow-up treatments. We have our 2 done once a year unless there seems to be a problem.
I also have myself done about every 4-6 months depending on how bad my back is or if I've fallen off etc!
My McTimoney practitioner doesn't offer sports massage, but I am doing a course at the moment - when I am qualified we will recommend each other as the 2 complement each other very well; if she adjusts the horse any muscle imbalance may well cause it to go out of alignment again, so a course of massage will help.

I used a McTimoney chiropractor after Bebe's sacroiliac injury recurred (about 7 months after I got her). It was definitely successful and Bebe was able to start back in work shortly after she was treated. I now have her checked every 6 months as a precaution.
I agree with Ginger Thing about massage complementing McT chiro work very well. After Bebe's SI problem was treated it was recommended that I have her massaged a fortnight later, this prevents muscles that have been altered from spasming back to how they were prior to the chiro treatment.

Thanks for the help. It has been decided i'll ring and book an appointment after talking to Emma and seeing if she wants Basil doing :)
How long roughly did it take your horses to 'recover' after the treatment?

I had to bring Arnie back into work over 10 days. We built it up really slowly, starting by just walking and doing straight lines only and progressing to straight lines in trot and circles in walk and then everything in trot. But as I said, his back was quite bad. I think the 'normal' cases are brought back into work over 3-4 days, building up the work gradually.

Brilliant :) Thank you!
(Recovery time is important due to her first show - Prelim 7 - and don't want to pay the entry fee if she's not going to make it! £10 geez...)

Well, best of luck with the treatment AND the dressage. Would love to know how both go.
Was so inspired by the McTimoney that I'm now looking into completing the training (£5k per year for 2 years so lots of saving to do :D ) so would love to hear how you find it.
