Baylee has got alot of milk/udder development. When the baby comes I will definately keep you all updated with pics as long as the foal comes out healthy because there is always that possibility. [URL=http://www.theimagehosting.com]http://images5.theimagehosting.com/2ndpicofbellydropping.JPG[/

We introduced her to alf-alpha(sp?) hay today. Boy, it sure is expensive, but it is worth having a healthy foal. Her muscles around her tail are starting to relax. I'm guessing less than two weeks to go. But it seems like her udder should be a bit bigger, but it might get huge here in the next week or so. Just to give you all an update :D!

oooo exciting! I love this time of year, lots of little foalies running about. I am currently awaiting one of my favorite mare's foals to come, which will be any day now! (I have been excited since she came home from the stud!) I hope everything goes well and your mare has a nice easy birth and a beautiful foal. Good luck! Post many pics!

How exciting! She's looking well too. :D
One of mine is due tomorrow... hah! She has other ideas.... ;) Lots of sleepless nights still to come, I think.

Here is her udder... it doesn't seem to be filling out correctly, or maybe it is because she is a maiden and things are just a bit different. Can someone give me their advice???

My mare, Jet, is also due soon; I bought her in January, and they only said she was due in May. Her udder is a little more developed than yours, I think. Jet lost her mucous plug last Thursday, and she is a little squishy around her tail. She is extremely grumpy, mostly due to being stalled all the time (because of infested fescue). Where are you in TN? I'm between Knoxville and Sevierville. Virtually all of our grass is fescue, so Jet has been in a stall for a month now. I'm paying $8 a bale for alfalfa, does that sound about right? I'm also giving her some timothy, just so she has something more to munch on all day. Your mare is just beautiful.

Hey there!
I live 40 miles west of knoxville in Morgan County. I have been feeding fescue to my horse, but i think that ours was not infested. We currently have her on alfalfa and some Mare plus Supplement in her sweet feed. Sounds like you will have a baby in another week since she has lost her mucus plug. Baylee hasn't, or I dont think she has. Anyways, it is great to hear from a Local! :p

You are close! I called the ag extension agent, and he said all of the fescue around here is infected. I wanted to have it tested where I board (because I hate to confine Jet for no reason), but he didn't seem willing to do it. I do know several horses who have stayed on pasture and done just fine with new babies. My vet said that if the horse is building a bag, they are most likely okay. There is a medicine they give if there is a problem. Keep me posted how your mare is doing. Good luck!

It seems like it is taking forever for her to have her baby. It looks like she could drop (meaning her belly) any day now. HURRY UP!!!!

Hi,
I live in Tennessee (henderson). My pasture has both Bermuda and Fescue. My mare is going to have her foal in April 2006. What kind of problem is that with the Fescue? I keep hearing that a pregnant mare must be taken off the Fescue during the last 2 months. Anybody explain this to me?
