I have had my mare millie from 2 years now. At the moment she is in season and having a bad one. She has been flirting with the geldings through most of the winter and jumps in with them. The other day she was impossible to bring in, she was in the geldings field with her mate thomas they we both kicking out and running off, so was left until later to bring in.
I have been giving her ostress for several months now, but she seems to be getting no better. Has anyone got any suggestions, I could really do with some help and advice.

She may need something stronger but i'd rule out any physical abnormality first- how old is she? has she ever had a foal? Talk to your vet and ask for him to come and check her out - she may have an abnormal ovary - which can cause the agression, he may recommend putting her on regumate (which is expensive) but basically stops the mare coming into season all together.
If there's nothing untoward going on internally, try an alternative therapy - i had bowen on my mare and now i do sports massage and that seems to have reformed her character completely!

Thanks for that, Millie is 7. Im hoping to use the vet as a last restort. We kepted her well away from the geldings today, she's in her own field for a week, hoping to break the habit she's got of jumping in with the boys. If she starts stressing then my friend will her mare in with mine. Her's too jumps in with the boys but she is a lot younger.

wonderful these mares LOL ....
Taz gets very swollen ovaries .... to the point of me not riding her for 2-3 days just as shes coming into season ( just was NOT worth it .,,. or fair on her) . After trying several options vet said surgical removal the only option left .... but I did not want to do that. We found the best suited herbal remedy for Taz was hormonise ...... but what has changed her totally has been devils claw in its raw form ( not the liquid added daily to food ) together with wintergreen in arnica (aromatic oils).
Since her season are not always regular I observe her behaviour- and when she shows signs of "moodiness" or discomfort I offer her both. When she needs it she will take 2-3 handfuls of devils claw and loads of the oils - but when its not needed she will spit out the first taste of DC or completely ignore it. ( its a bit like us taking asprin, it has a bitter taste !) She is certainly a more comfy mare these days !!!
Hope you find something to suit her
