Editing Avatar

Hiya .
I'm trying to get an avatar up beside my name , and it wont work . I'm resizing my pics to at 50 x 50 , and trying to upload it . But it says my file size is too big , it has to be at 10KB or less . Does anyone know how I can change document size , I'm not very good with computer stuff .

P.S. I'm using photoshop to edit my pics , but can use either paint , fireworks or image ready , if it will make a diffrence .

Yes, that is the difference. Photoshop saves the files so they are huge (in terms of bytes). Use Paint and it will be fine!

Okay , I've used paint and its still saying file is to large . Also , my pic just looks black . Here it is . Does anyone know how to fix this ?

Yep , here it is . Thats Toddy , my fave horse at the RS . I had to resize it to 500 x 500 to get it on though

Ok, not sure if this will work, but if you right click on the pic Showjumper resized, and click Save Picture as, you should be able to save it to your computer. Then if you go to User CP and click something like Change Avatar, there should be a browse box. Click browse then just find it on your computer, and click it! That should work (hopefully!)

Thanks for trying kyanya, but it's not working. It's doing the same thing as it did with me. It keeps coming up with a message saying that it is not a GIF, JPG or PNG file and I can't use it because it's a BMP! This is the problem I keep having. Can anyone explain why or how I stop it doing this??? :confused:

Oh, and by the way, he's not mine...just a pic that I love :D He does look alot like the new horse at my RS though.... :D Love at first sight! :p :D

Have also tried doing it by entering the URL into the URL box and it comes up with an error message saying that there is no picture at the specified URL :confused:

Might be wrong but I think if you open it up in photoshop and save as , it gives you an option down the bottom to change it to a JPG image . then save it and try again . I might be wrong though but I remember having the same sort of problems trying to upload pics , and think thats what i done . :)

OK, lets see if we can get you an avatar, Sarah

1) Right-click on the picture above
2) Select 'Copy' from the list
3) Open the program 'Paint'
4) Go to 'Image' on the toolbar at the top in Paint
5) Select 'Attributes' from the list
6) Enter the value '50' in the width box and '44' in the height box
7) Make sure 'Pixels' and 'Colors' are selected
8) Click 'OK'
9) Go to 'Edit' on the toolbar at the top in Paint
10) Select 'Paste' from the list. Yo should then see the small piccie there.
11) Go to 'File' on the toolbar at the top in Paint
12) Select 'Save As' from the list.
13) Select where you want to store the image on your computers memory
14) Give the image a filename (i.e NelsonAvatar or something descriptive)
15) In the 'Save as type' box, select JPEG (poosibly shown as JPG but it's the same)
16) Click 'Save'

You should then have a small enough image in the right filetype to load up as your avatar. It sounds like you know how to upload an image on NR to be your avatar, so you then need to do that. Good luck! The above process is not as complicated as it sounds, I just broke it down so it's very easy to understand (or so I hope!)
