I am tempted to enter the above class at a local show sometime soon, and was wondering if there is a general height/age restriction on riders in this class. None is specified in the show schedule, but would i (16yr old, 8.5st rider, 5ft 6) be allowed to ride a 12hh Welsh A in this class?
i just dont want to turn up, and then be told i cant enter
thanks

Sounds okay to me. I don't see why you would be prevented from riding in that class, since it's a general M&M class rather than a children's class... if the schedule doesn't specify a maximum age then it's probably okay. But you could always call the organisers to make sure.

no not copthall (though everyone has asked me that) its north mymms riding club, at Cuffley, Herts.
Are you going to Copthall?
its scary and exciting at the same time...i dont see why they wouldnt let me if they didnt specify, so im sure it will be fine, just wanted to check.
thats if we actually manage to sort ourselves out for it...thankfully im having a lesson on thurs so that will give us a chance to work on *everything*! then can do a bit of schooling over the next few weeks as i have been mainly hacking, then have been away so hes currently in nutter mode..its fun, but i dont think controlled would fit anywhere in a description!
do you/will you show angel at all this year?

hes a great laugh, even when he is being a complete git he still makes me laugh. Following on from our lesson last night, we were praticising leg yeilds in walk as two others are madly cantering round and jumping...he was not impressed AT ALL, so just kept doing a silly mad dash, then when i wouldnt let him charge off he would just whizz sideways...deary me...
somewhat regretting having had the idea of the show now as i am desperate to do it, and now i just have to sort out transport for a week on sunday!! fun..
@kanuma...at least you look like you are the right size!! im going for a pair of rollerskates and no stirrups :P
if we can get there it should be so much fun!!!
thanks for reassuring me guys

shorten your stirrup leathers push your legs back! im massive on harvey but thats the trick, believe me if i were to ride at my normal stirrup length id need them! i rode an 11.2hh pony in a hoys qualifier once! the rider was a friends daughter and the pony was playing up, he dumped the girl and she broke her collar bone, i was the only one she knew who had thier show stuff with them that she knew!
id never ridden the pony before, but we didnt disgrace ourselves! i think we came 8th out of about 20!

hmmm..we are definately not that level or anywhere near yet! yeah i already ride with short stirrups, which feels really strange after a year of being taught to ride v long in a dressage saddle! but ive decided that little ponies are the coolest!
just curious, what should i be prepared for in terms of how he could respond to this show (i think its the first ridden one hes ever done, although he has been shown inhand before), anything widly different that may make him excitable/unnerve him?

look out for things in hedges, they tend to make a fuss about that, but other wise he should be fine, he is used to the crowds so that shouldnt be to much of a problem, stay out of the warmup rings, that is hell even with an experianced showing school masters! a crowded warmup ring will hype him up massively! warm up between the horseboxes, this also gets him used to rideing through crowds. take it easy and take your time, get there early and warm up slowly to get him used to it and he should have no problems, have a friend near by to lead him in if she wont go in the ring, and if you are not sure about doing something tell the steward, they normaly will find a way for you to still compete!
