In the last couple of days my mare has taken to nipping herself around the Pectoral region and shoulder, given herself a couple of nasty wounds. She has no skin complain or infestation, gets plenty turn out, is in great condition and heavily pregnant (due mid May). Anyone got any ideas!?

Down around us the flies and midges have started coming out in anger recently, but although lots of them are biting themseleves none seem to be actually breaking skin. Have you asked your vet? I'd be more inclined to try a fly spray for a few days if she wasn't so near to foaling. Hope it's nothing serious :)

I wouldn't take any chances with a pregnant mare! I would call your vet right away. Better safe than sorry!! :)
