Hi all,
Thought I should just post a quick update on Spangle and how things are going. Basically, fantastic! :D Sorry if I go on a bit!!
My instructor gave me a lesson on lunging the other day (had tried with her a few days ago but it was clear she needed 'teaching' how to lunge..something I've not done before!). So anyway, today I tried on my own...wow! my girl is such a fast learner! In one session, we have gone from having a complete paddy fit, careering round in a mad canter and pulling like crazy against the lunge line, to lovely controlled walk, trot and halts. We even got different speeds within the paces!! The halts were loads better, she turned in to me, but at least she didn't come over to me and plonk herself right by my side!! She was really responsive to my voice too! She really is teaching me so much...good job I've got a brilliant instructor on site who helps me out whenever! With older horses, that I've always had, lunging has always been 'easy' as they knew just what they were supposed to do...my instructor said it was good training for me to, because I was leaning forward when I was lunging which is exactly what I tend to do in the saddle!!
Riding wise, again brilliant! My canters still horrendous (sp!), but my teacher says that I've got to the point where I am just trying too hard and I've seriously got to chill out!! Hopefully getting new saddle tomorrow when fitter comes out, so I'm really hoping this will help my balance a little too!!
