my 13.3hh welsh is about 350kg last time we used the weight tape. vet says thats ideal for her, a bit on the trim side but she has to be coz she's a lamanitic. i'd say that sounds fine!! have a feel at his tummy, if you can feel but not see the ribs its also a good indicator that his weight is fine.

Last time I used the weight tape on Ginger was last summer. It showed 270 kg at 12,2hh and she was not too slim or fat.
The weight tape can show different results I think e.g. when the horse breathes, or when he has a lot of winter fur.
I would like to measure her with a scale, but theres no big enough around here ;) :)

Not to bad then! He has also muscled up a bit so does this make a difference? I will keep an eye on it though!
I think I can just feel his ribs, but not very well!! :o He doesn't have much of a crest though and his withers aren't fatty.

according to my OH (whos into all this health stuff and weight training, mad man!!) muscle does weigh more than fat, so if drummer has muscled up that may add to his weight a bit. don't worry!! sounds like you are doing fine with him :D

Dolly is 13hh and 390kg...overweight and about condition score 4. She needs to lose some, but I don't think she'll ever get below 360kg as she's a big girl through the girth, even without the weight :)

Thanks everyone, its really interesting how similar size ponies differ! You have all given me an idea ish as to where Drummer should be and I think as long as we don't gain weight then we should be OK!

But surely if you are using a weightape it wouldn't know the difference? It doesnt weigh, it measures (if you know what I mean?) Phoebe at 14hh is apparently 500kg but im doubtful, I only have a freebie one, that is one sided  !

Shandy is 14.2hh and weighs 350kg and Bramble is 13hh and weighs 320kg i think :o If he desn't look too chunky and he's not too cresty I wouldn't worry too much
