I have found a great livery yard, its everything I was hoping for. Its highly reccommended by a friend of my OH and the local vet. They hardly ever have a vacancy but one is coming up at the end of the month.
The YO is really friendly and not at all sniffy at me being a noviceand this being my first horse. I was very honest about my abilities and she said there would always be someone around to ask for help or advice.
I have no horse at the moment I am going to start looking asap now I have found somewhere.
To me the ideal answer is to take the vacancy and pay the monthly fee I can then look with the assurance of having somewhere all ready, I'm not even that bothered if it takes a few months. Going somewhere else thats not so good would be really stressfull for me and all it does is add a couple of hundred pounds to the purchase price of my horse.
Does this sound like a sensible idea?

If you like the yard and people then if you can afford the extra expense it's definatly a good idea :)

if you can afford it, go for it. better to be sure than suddenly having to settle for a mediocre yard!
i sorted the yard first and then started looking for a horse. but because it was a huge yard and they always have vacancies, i only started paying the fee once i had the horse.

I think its a great idea.
You may well find a horse at the yard already, that is up for sale or part lease.
It also gives you the chance to see how the place works from the inside out, before you have a horse there.

Sounds like a very good idea! It's definitely worth paying for a yard as good as that, you're definitely making the right decision!
Good luck in finding your perfect horse!

I think it's a great idea. I was offered a space at my old yard in April if I paid a $50 deposit and they promised to hold it till December of that year! December is when I really wanted to buy the horse (after graduation) but then my horsey boy moved in in May... having a stall already definitely expedited the process :D

If you can afford it.. do it! Not easy to find a good yard that you are confident with. Hope you find the horse of your dreams!

It is a great idea if you can afford it. :) And hopefully, you'll get a lovely horse to fill that stall soon!

Sound like a good plan, maybe they will give you a reduced rate until you find the right horse?
So what's this new yard like, lots of facilities?

Yard sounds great, but hope you won't take offence if I offer a word of caution - ask about a contract, if they have one, and if you can see it. I've been caught out on this one. Excellent verbal promises, not met, which then causes misunderstandings and sometimes unpleasantness when queried.
Good Luck.

What you are suggesting is exactly what I did when i bought my first horse (7 years ago). The best decision I ever made (horse and yard!). Go for it :D and best of luck :D
