Right I know when I am on the wrong leg in trot so I change diagonal. I did need a quick glance to work it out though. As I have been having more lessons I am starting to feel when it is wrong. But I don't know when I am on the wrong leg in Canter. I look down but you actually need to look at both legs to see which one reaches furthest in front. So how do I tell by looking at the shoulder blades whether I am on the right leg or not? Is there any other way to tell? Thanks in advance for help. :)

The inside should will be ahead.

Also, when the horse lands on his forefoot at the last step of a canter stride (when his head is lowest, and at the 3rd footfall before the pause), it should be is inside front foot that he is landing on.

Not that I think I'd be able to recognise it myself but I read somewhere that when your outside hip moves to the inside whilst following the horse's movement you are on the correct lead. If, however, your inside hip is moving to outside you're on the wrong one.

Hope this helps... ;)

Thanks very interesting. I will give it a go and hopefully things can only improve with practise. :)

I just do the inside leg forward thing when I need to check. I haven't done it much before.
