You said I should update you all when I got my round pen!
I bought it Saturday and, of course, it was raining! By evening it stopped raining and I got to try out my pen a little bit. My pony had never been in a round pen or been lounged. However, I just sort of used what I learned watching some of the Monty Roberts tapes. All my other horses were trained when I got them, so I never started a horse in a round pen before. I didn't even really know exactly what I was doing, but she caught on right away! I hadn't realized how natural round pen training was for a horse. It somehow works perfectly with their thinking.
I got her moving with a lunge whip, just tiny snaps with the lash. I kept it really low and unthreatening as long as she kept moving, soon as she started the licking and chewing I dropped the whip and turned away from her. Within two seconds I could see her slide to a stop(out of the corner of my eye) and face my back. Her full attention was on me and their was juicy grass right under her feet. I was amazed! It has totally changed her attitude. Before when I was working her she would be crabby and try to eat grass, and that was on the lead! Now when we're working in the round pen she is totally concentrating on me.
This pen was so worth the money. :D
