Hi Liz--y. Yep your black jacket and PC tie will be fine with white/beige jods. You can wear either long boots or jod boots but I don't think chaps are allowed? Just basic show turnout really.
You can use the prolite pad and a saddle cloth provided it isn't a bright colour - I'd just stick to black or white. But if it's a PC competition make sure you're saddle cloth isn't personalised - the PC have funny rules like that. And you're also not allowed to use a velvet covered browband and if it’s a PC comp, any padded nosebands etc have to have the same colour padding - you can't have a black leather noseband/browband on white padding - but you can for affiliated and most unafilliated comps. You can use dressage whips and spurs if you need to - or at least you can use a whip for the lower levels; spurs are compulsory from medium upwards.
Make sure you are neatly turned out basically. The tack checker will make sure everything's correct.
I just remember the letters in a 20x40m arena by: All King Edward's Horses Can Manage Big Fences.
Hope this helps and good luck in you're competition!
Fiona.

Turnout is a really big part of dressage- so.......... a black coat with white breeches, a white shirt and stock tie, and tall black boots would be best...but generally, if you are a child, you can wear beige jodpurs and jod boots and a dark colored jacket are appropriate. NO CHAPS! You can wear black or white gloves...I prefer white...
your horse doesn't necessarily need to be braided, but a braided (or roached) horse is much more appealing to the judge. Typically, if you have a dark colored horse, you use a white pad, or white with black piping, and if you have a lighter colored horse (such as greys, palominos, etc...) you use a black pad. No polos or wraps are to be worn in the ring.
So basically, just be sure that your horse and you both are well groomed and polished. oh, and be sure to wear a hairnet. but the main thing - HAVE FUN!!

you can also wear dark blue jackets and beige jodhpurs in all levels of competition.
also a little tip if you rid ien lower levels where you are allowed to use a dressage whip...always make sure it is a dark clour..preferably black..because white ones make the whip more notciable and look longer than the black!

no probs..i only mentioned it because one of the people who won the riders cup tour stage yesterday here in germany was wearign a dark blue jacket and beige breeches :D
i also forgot to mention that you should reme, ber that white breeches are see through...so please think about the underwear to wear..
I was at a competition a couple of months ago and loads of young showjumpers were wearing their white breeches with coloured/patterned underwear on!

My instructor, who also judges dressage, recommends wearing a tweed jacket and dark gloves: the tweed makes it harder to see faults in the rider's position, and the gloves ditto hand position!:D

Gloves are compulsory at all levels
As for half chaps British Dressage has just changed the rules this year to allow gaiters provided they are of the same leather as your boots and aren't patterned - don't know whether the same applies to chaps.
Remember horse can't wear a martingale and boots only allowed warming up.
also the sort of bits you can use are limited and your horse's bridle must have a noseband.
(Been swatting up on the rules cos I'm competing on Saturday - oooh panic panic!)
