Outrider- I know you live in Texas so I am hoping maybe you can help me out.
I desperately want to learn how to ride or re-learn the correct way. At this time I really don't have the money to pay for lesson but am starting to think this may be the only way I get to ride. As I mentioned in an earlier post I had found a girl that was willing to teach me basics, but I am not sure she has the same amount of time that I am willing to give.
My interests are to learn everything you can think of to owning a horse. (feeding, exercising, grooming, cleaning stalls, etc.) because my goal is to own a horse someday.

Anyway, I know Texas is a HUGE state and you probably live in El Paso and don't know anyone here in the Austin area, but what does it hurt to try :D !

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Peace

Hi! I'm not Outrider, but I'm in the same situation as you are. For the next two years, I'm going to be a poor law student, but when I graduate I want to have my own horses and know how to take care of them. I'm volunteering at a hippotherapy center, and they're great about teaching me things. The web site for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association is http://www.narha.org . They have a list of hippotherapy centers in the US, and all of them need volunteers. Maybe there's one near you!

Great idea!!! I'm going to research it and see if it is something I could do.

Thank you.

Hi Allgirl. Did you say you were in Austin? I live just an hour north of you! What help can I give you? If by some chance you wanted to drive up here, I could help you with other information or even riding. Let me know. Happy Trails!

I don't know anyone who owns horses that is willing to give up some time with me or not give up time, just spend some time riding with me. I guess its like I am looking for a "new" friend that wants to share their horses. (is that being selfish?)
I am a beginner in a sense that I use to ride as a young girl but was never properly taught. Mostly it was get on the horse and make it move.
I would love to come up there (where ever that may be :) ). Are weekends good?

Thanks!!

I am teaching a woman to ride right now. There are a couple of horses I can use for lessons that belong to other folks. If you are interested, send me an email at horizons@n-link.com and we can talk about it. Killeen is about 60 miles or so north of Austin. You take I35 to the Florence exit, then take state hwy 195 to Killeen and the stable I board at is off of that road on FM 2484. Weekends are ok if I am not traveling somewhere for my job. Send me an email and we can talk about it. Happy Trails!
