Well todays lesson consisted of learning to handle two reins. I've never done this before and we had also changed her bit to a PMR just to see how she would go in it. We started off with me confused as I'm not used to double reins. However we managed it and she actually came down on the bit as she was frothing at the mouth by the end of the time we spend with her.

Here's the photos

I see Iz has been there...very smart in her military bridle ;)

You look like you both (you and Rhi) did really well with the double reins

how was she in the military reversable? They are a driving bit too so if she rides well in it then you could drive in it too :) Not of course with double reins though ;)

Well errrrr.......... Yes my instructor was up and she made me clean Thunderbolts bridle (brown kit. Ok I did the brass pieces) and he had the PMR on it. So last night was spent cleaning Rhi's harness which took approx 2hrs as it was cleaned right the way down taking off all dirt and grime.

So she came up with the bright idea of trying it and teaching Double reins :D I know you can buy them as we were looking at them on a site the other day and Susan (who was at your wedding with me) says she bought one for Pol as it was recommended.

Did you notice Esther its Rhi's own bridle that we are riding in (other was miles too big) and those reins looked enormous before they went onto the horse. I honestly thought they were going to be a lot longer than they were. Unfortunately Thunderbolts bridle (ok I know Iz did not call it a bridle but I can't remember what she called it :o ) would not fit

I could always be the first to drive in double reins. Make it the new fashion ;)

Thank you Stiltz :D

The photos look great Miriam!!

I love it when people use military tack - it makes a change from
"Oh my GOD!!! You're not going to put THAT on your horse are you?????!!!!!!!"
No, I was just going to hold it up and see if the horse thought it suited me.

Thanks Jamey. We did take the head piece off as it was miles too big for Rhi but if it had fit we were going to leave it on.

I'm certainly thinking of investing in a PMR as the result was amazing. I've never had her frothing at the mouth with any of her bits till yesterday.

I was asked why I had double reins on her :D
