If its not one thing its another with us!!

Went on mini hack with 2 others today and Drummer was a nightmare! He spent the entire time with his nose in the air completely ignoring me!! (walk was actually ok!) Tactics needed please! :o

Come on someone must have some tips!!!

I don't know because I've never had any problems in this instance except that when Flash was younger she fought to get to the front of the ride and Amber prefers to be out front but none of them get overly excited but then they only ever hack out with their "crowd"

How is he when you hack out with just one other horse?

Could be if he's not used to hacking out in a bigger group than that then you may need to break him in gently to it.
Its a strange one because it was only two other horses. Where these horses that he doesn't know?

Sorry I can't be more help but perhaps letting him spend some paddock time with these two would also help or you could try walking him out in hand with them if they weren't going to go too far a distance and were staying at a walk!

Sorry but good luck! I hope it was just a one off and he settles.

Thanks for replying. You may have answered my problem. Although he knows these 2 well, they are not his paddock mates! and we have only ridden alone for the past couple of weeks!

Archer was horrible today too, DM -head all over the place and trying to tank off with his nose on the floor. Bleah! Sh*t happens!! :)

Adam's Ok when hacking out in front, behind or in the middle with anyone really. Sponsored rides are a different kettle of fish and I'll be interested to see the replies to this thread.

I just looked at your profile to see if Drummer was a cob - I feel the same as your comment - if it's not one thing it's another! Adam is a 14.3 who thinks he's a pony even if he's just a tad over!

Flash is the same, a 22 year old welsh section D who is determined to win next years grand national!!!!

Drummers mum, if you feel confident enough, try hacking him out again with the same two horse, just to see if there is an improvement now that the excitement of hacking out with some other horses may have worn off!

Will do but probably not until sat so the excitement will have had time to build again!

I'm meant to be going on a fun ride on Sun but really not sure I fancy it. We,ve never been before!!

do you have someone who would be willing to walk on foot beside you? I get my OH to do that - keeps him fit and his brownie points well up :D

If I'm feeling particulary nervous about hacking Amber out I whisle and sing out loud - get funny looks from people out and about but who cares, it keeps my mind off things ;)

sorry to hear that! not sure what to suggest other than riding out with very very calm horses next time maybe?

angel only gets a little bit weird when she's at the front (she doesnt seem to like hearing other horses behind her without being able to see them). she likes the idea of a race regardless though (makes no sense. she hates being in front yet tries to out herself exactly there when cantering with others ... usually a halfhearted attempt though!)

My other half does the same, the only problem is now that Adam starts jogging after every runner he sees in the woods

Let us know how you get on on Sunday, do you have someone to go with?

Meant to be going with a woman from the yard who only wants to take it steady but 2 girls want to go too but only got transport for 3!! I'm not going with the girls, all they do is gallop!!

Mind you if I don't go my sister said she would come over and bike out with me!!

I think though although someone on foot can't do THAT much to help you if things go a bit pear shaped, just the fact that someone is on the ground near you does seem to give you added confidence.

I could hack for miles and will little incident when Harry is with me but when its just us three girls out I go like a jelly fish!

Mind over matter I assume!

:D Try telling my matter that! :D

Decided I'm not going on the fun ride! I don't need my confidence knocked! Maybe next year!!!!!

there will be other fun rides! Get your confidence sorted and then you can go to another fun ride and really enjoy it!

I know what you mean though, no matter how much I tell my "matter" to behave it never does :D

All I can say is keep on going out with people - first one other person, then another.....

Ebby hasn't been out for 2 weeks and before then we only every went out with one other person (or on our own), and when we came to going out with 3 other horses she turned into such a stress head - slowly does it!!!
