Quick Question -
I am going to sign up to do a Natural Horsemanship clinic on my yard next month with our training manager.
It will be a group class so not loose.
Just wondering if the parelli halter and line etc are essential? They're rather expensive. Might treat horse to one if there's no alternative.
Thanks everyone

You can look around for a "knock off"

Is it specifically Parelli or Natural Horsemanship? NH can be so many different things...

If specifically Parelli then I would try and get the stuff (it is impossible to get the same sensitivity with a normal halter and lunge line etc) , at least the halter (you can get copies fairly cheaply :) ), if it is anything like the things I have been on there are usually a few spare ropes floating about for those who are just starting out :) If in doubt of course you could ask the organiser?

or you could try tellington jones stuff, that doesnt require all the expensive kit and its almost foolproof! i had a go at some elaborate pole-work last summer, all i needed was my headcollar and a long rope (a lungeline would do as well)! just google for tellington jones, theres lots of stuff explained with piccies on the website. my pony enjoyed it greatly!

I can't really help with whether you actually need them or not but I just thought I'd let you know that there are some rope halters very similar to parelli ones selling extremely cheaply on ebay. :)

Kerry Claire - Im watching two on ebay now anyway! :)

I asked our YO and she said the halter and line are necessary.
I usually borrow one but if Im going to do this regularly I will just buy.

Thanks for the help all

I would check with your trainer if they favour the metal clips on the ropes or not. Parelli always use them, but many NH people aren't that keen.

I'd check with the trainer giving the clinic - he/she may well bring everything you need with them. When I do clinics I always take enough halters and ropes with me for all the participants. If they already have their own, that's fine, if not they can borrow them from me and either give them back or buy them at the end of the day. I don't like the metal clips, so if people come to one of my groups with the Parelli stuff I just lend them a non-clip rope for the day - which again they can buy or give back as they like. (I ususally lend used ones - and have new ones for people to buy! :) )

Cheers
