There was a shake up a while back where Parelli restructured their approach to instructors. As a result, some of the people who had been Parelli Instructors decided to go their own way. There are a few examples - Ross Simpson in UK, Steve Halfpenny (Silversands NH) and so on. I'm guessing these folk may be from a similar background ?
Ross Simpson is now doing something he calls "positive horse magic" and has the Natural Animal Centre.
Steve does clinics in the UK as well as internationally and is based in Australia (http://www.silversand.com.au/).

Well Ross was in one of the magazine when he was doing parelli, and then just swapped to PHM - so I know whats been there. The "difference" is that he uses clicker training as part of the approach - as positive reinforcement.
I haven't done it - I tend towards the more "informal" approaches like Mark Rashid, so Parelli is probably the most "structured" approach I use.
My cynic's view is that a lot of the more structured stuff is more about training the human than the horse;)

thanx!!!! im very open minded about everything and if it seems logical to me i do it!!! :p parelli is good coz they tell you what to do every step of the way, and it works!!!!! also if things go wrong they tell you how to c orrect it. i like structured programmes like this, but it is everyone to their own, some prefer other training! my friend went from parelli to positive horse magic because she said her horse preffered it!!

Yes, Shane and Meredith are ex-Parelli instructors and from what I heard in Aus they teach in a very similar way to Parelli. I met some people who had attended clinics with them and they teach 4 phases and their version of the 7 games.
I have a problem with positive horse magic. Most of the photos I see are of Ross doing stuff are with horses that could already do it thanks to their Parelli training. Often Bjorn, the horse he was working on Level 4 with. Just my problem though...

oh right crystal fire! i will have to ask my friend how far along she is with the phm and see if she is still doing it, although her horse had passed l1 parelli and started l2! i dont like clicker training because you have to click at the right time or you could be sending wrong messages to your horse!!

sure - but this actually applies to ANY positive reinforcement, whether its with clicker or simply by "release". If you don't indicate when the horse gets it right, how do they know when to stop trying different responses ?
This is MY "problem" with clicker training - that if, as an owner, I can learn to reward with a clicker, than I can learn to reward per se, with or without clicker....so I just skip the clicker ;)

Well, if you're clicking, treating or removing "negative reinforcement" I suppose your timing needs to be right for it to work. I think there is a place for clicker, but defy anyone to try to prove that they could train a completely wild horse from scratch to say being able to do a simple dressage test using only positive reinforcement.
I think that true free shaping of behaviour can in some ways be more stressful than using more conventional methods. It would rely on the animal having to guess it's way to doing the right thing and getting a treat. When a tiny bit of negative reinforcement (like a feel on a rope) would make life much easier all round.
