So today I started working with Coquette, under Sharon's wise supervision and instruction. Went to her stall and put her halter and lead-line on, took her to the arena and put her on the cross ties. Took her blanket off. Led her into the round-pen and let her run and roll for a few minutes. Took a few minutes to attempt to use a lunge whip; managed one or two good ones out of about ten or fifteen tries. Went into the round-pen with Coquette. Worked her at the walk, jog and lope for fifteen minutes on the left lead, then turned her around and worked her at the walk, jog and lope for fifteen minutes on the right lead. Worked on finding my position in the round-pen and following her body language. Learned that this is much harder than it looks. Took Coquette out of the round-pen and put her on the cross-ties. Gave her a full grooming except for her feet because I wasn’t sure how she’d react to that. Put her blanket on and took her back to her stall.
I'm tired. Any easy way to make a lunge whip snap? Or does it just take practice?
