insipred by watching a local show today, i had (for some bizarre reason! deathwish maybe?) a spontaneous (someone had left jumps in the school ...) mini jumping session with pony! we jumped 2ft!!!!! not very dignified and with no grace whatsoever on my part, but we did it :D and i didnt even fall off!!!! angel was very very good, although sheoverjumped big time after we'd done it a few times (i think she was showing off ...)

Well done! (very brave - no way would I do that!)

Did you manage to get your girth sorted out?

(Sorry if my reply to your text was a bit brief, my batteries were on the point of collapse and I still had to ring Dave to let him know he'd have to hold the baby for another hour while I finished up with Smurp - I'd forgotten how long it takes to accomplish anything on our yard what with all the chatting and tea-drinking!)

After swearing jumping was something I'd never do that's just how I got started, someone left one up in the school one day and I thought 'why not':D
Well done for having a go, it's not as bad as it seems and the horses always enjoy it:)

I do a bit of jumping, I've jumped 3" *once* and on currently horse I've cleared about 75cm... which is massive for me.
Mostly we just amble over 1" or so, but I want to start eventing so I'll have to get my act together!
well done! I remember being made to jump my first jump and it freaked me out (even though it was low!) and i think you've made a great start by deciding to jump on your own :) you sound like you've got a special pony as well :D

angel loved it :D she was all raring to go (but not in a bad way, i hasten to add, she didnt rush or go mad or anything, she was just enthusiastic) and seemed to be showing off her moves :) and i swear she was trying to teach me how its done, because she sorted herself out beautifully in terms of strides and approach, all i had to do was point her at the jump and hang on for dear life :D

i know what you mena about jumping, although i still wont voluntarily jump anything over about 2ft 6 absolute max, i find myself taking my little pony over logs and x poles in the school i wouldnt have dreamed of a while ago! and then jumping horses that dont jump, or that ive only ridden once...my confidence is building,...slowly....im tempted to go to a show and do a minimus course...maddy would love it but id be terrified!

hopefully im going to pages farm show and copthall in june so we will see what they have...copthall gymkhana looks very tempting!

wish it was near enough to hack to but im just gonna have to dish out to hire a horsebox...ah well!

Well Done you. I am jumping now but just under 2 ft. I am hoping to go to Laughton Manor Pony days. The jumps range from 1ft up. I know I will be entering against kids but I just want to do it for the experience. Angel looks really well in her piccys. Lovely condition.

Angel looking great, cute pics too!!!

I'd be the same with jumping but with the the horse i have now (only leasing though :( ) its hard not to like jumping. And of course the lessons, i have a semi-private every sunday and we have an instructor who you cant say no to! :D Last week we were jumping 1m 10, 3 in a row (i was terrified but my boy knew what he was doing!) :D I love him to bits!!! :D

Angel looks great - I wish Ted looked that (see my thread).

Well done for having a go at jumping. I did a very similar thing to you the other day on Ted. Ted had never jumped before and he did two grids and a wall as though he had jumped all his life. I had a knot in my throat with pride. I've never really jumped before and suddenly here I am joining the local riding club so I can do the minimus class and maybe the handy pony! I have a feeling I'll be surrounded by 5 year old children!! I just need to find out what to wear e.t.c.

i really must be out of my mind for i have been daring again on friday! i did what i hadnt done for over 10 years ... i cantered bareback quite merrily (had to climb on the fence to actually get on the pony though!) and daringly went over some trotting poles while i was at it. weee! fun!

Who are you and what have you done with the real Julia? :p:D:D

Jumping and cantering bareback - it's all so scary! Full credit to you and your braveness though - I can think about popping small jumps, but cantering bareback is something I don't plan on attempting in the near future. I had a go once on a schoolmistress who was safe as houses normally, but she spooked at something in the hedge and I went flying!

Wow you're being soooo brave!

I think it's better when we revert to our kiddy years and jump our ponies with no care in the world and ride bareback! It's great fun :D

This is what riding is all about - no pressure, not being scared and actually enjoying ourselves and probably giggling as we do it. I did a couple of little jumps last week for the first time in about 2 years. Well, he dragged his feet and knocked most of them down ad I think my previous instructor would have had a fit if she saw my position, BUT I enjoyed myself!

I remember that I used to feel sick before my jumping lessons and didn't look forward to them.

You go girl! and good luck for your clear round :D

the clear round will probably be a disaster but hey! i dont care! its at my OLD yard, if they laugh about me, who gives a hoot :D

also rode her down to the field bareback in her heacollar the other day (its just a soft with fences either side, so she cant really do anywhere) :D

Good luck in the show in Saturday.

I have also entered some jumping classes on Sunday with my pony I have on loan, Troy. Last time I managed to fly over his head in the warm up ring, and came last with 12 faults in the class. The jumps were only 1'6" as well!!! We both enjoyed it though which is the most important thing.

Let us know how you get on.
