I've been offered a horse on pt.loan for £30 per week. Its a lovely horse but I can't really afford it (I'm a student at uni!!LOL!) The thing is I know the woman and I'll feel really guilty if I suddenly say no bcos i was all for it until she told me the price. Any suggestions on A) how i could make the money with my limited time and B)How I can sort of excuse myself if i decide not to have it. To make it worse I've been looking for about a year and shes recently really tried to find me something!! I feel so guilty! HELP!
By the way, if i do turn it down, any suggestions on any other ways I can find nething to ride???

Hi !
I would either a) Be honest with this woman and say you really cannot afford £30 a week cos its a lot esp if you are a poor student (like me!).. I had the same problem a few years ago i had a part loan at £25 p/w it was fine till i gave up my job! then it was impossible to find the money..
or b) Try to get part time work - a few evenings a week in a bar or something? that could help cover costs...
or c) is this horse stabled ? could you work there at the yard?
I reckon part time work is your best bet - will that be practical? If not just explain to the woman that its hard for you to afford £30 when you are in uni and without steady income - I'm sure she will understand - you may be able to come to some finacial arrangement or something...
good luck!

I would have to agree with Anna's advice. Is 30 pounds per week a pretty average price? That sounds really expensive. It costs me about $90 a month to keep my horses (about 45 pounds), so I was jsut wondering if things were really that more expensive in England?

Hi
I think you should just explain to her that you really can't afford £30 a week as you're a student. I'm sure she'll understand.
To Allie - where do you live and can I move next to you! I keep my horse at DIY livery in Hampshire, UK and my husband's horse is there as well but he does have his horse looked after for him during the week as he works in London. Are you sitting down because we pay over £400 a month for the two of them! Around this area, you are paying anything from £20 - £35 per week for DIY. Mind you, having said that, we have all year round grazing and the horses are really well cared for and the yard is a very friendly place - I should know because I've been here for nearly 12 years! We have recently moved house and now have a 3 acre field and we hope to have stables built and bring the horses home - much cheaper.
Anyhow, I hope you have luck in your search for a horse to share or loan and that it won't be too expensive.

I live in Shawnee, Kansas. Our horses are turned out on about 170 acres of pasture/woodland all the time. It is essentially DIY livery (although it's not called that in the US). There is a barn with stalls for temporary use, a dry lot for studs or injured horses, and a very nice covered porch and a trailer with a stove (for those chilly winter days!) for socializing. There are trails all over the place and a very nice atmosphere. I absolutely love it, and I would be willing to pay much more for it rather than move. Even the jumping/full board stalls in my area only cost about $250/month (about 125 pounds). So, if you want to change continents any time soon, I can reccomend a good barn! By the way, our barn has a couple of horses that they lease to poeple, and it is a free lease- the people pay only board and feed bills, etc., but no flat monthly fee.
