i had a very strange experience last night, i agreed to ride a horse for a friend as her back was playing up, as well as riding my little un later.
She has a 17hh clydesdale x tb, who is huge anyway...but compare to an 11.2 its some difference!
basically to get into our arena there is a small gate to open, and on maddy it is no problem, we are the height of the gate so its nice and simple. Forgetting that i was riding a slightly (!) bigger pony, i just leant over to open the gate...leant so far still not getting it, lost my stirrup and very nearly slid off the side as i finally got it! hurriedly pulled myself back onto her, and then had a great laugh attempting to close it, almost fell off again, and gave up.
Seeing as i havent ridden anything bigger than 14.2 in a couple of months, it was a big shock to the system! Now instead of my calves swinging in mid-air, i felt like i was just waving them at the saddle flaps.
Saying that she did go very nicely for me, and i always feel its good to ride other horses...however strange it feels!
