can someone give me the 4-1-1 on this? I know it's some sort of training set, but i'm not exactly sure what. I've seen pics in catalogs, but it doesn't really explain how it works.

Hiya!

I think I've cross posted with you on this subject in the 'General' section!

Basically its a system of ropes and pulleys for lunge working. Works on building correct muscle and encouraging the horse to work from behind. Heard very good reports about it...see my thread!!

Hi!

I have one and it really does work well. As Sarah C said its a set of pulleys and rope. It encourages rather than forces the horse into the 'correct' position, and you can set it in different positions depending on what level of work your horse is at. It has ropes around the back legs which encourages the horse to bring his back legs under him. And although I was expecting some spooks at the rope behind them, other then a few shoots forward none of the horses were too bothered.

We have had it on all sorts of shapes and sizes - and some of them really seem to like the jangly sound of the pulleys as they work! It adjusts to all sizes - we have had it on a 12.2hh and a 17.2 with ones in between!

The ropes do on occasion come undone but I think this may be a safety device as much as anything so that if the horse really objects to it and panics they won't feel restricted and tied in. On the other hand it may be because we didn't tie it securely enough! ;) Hmm. Probably!

But I have had positive results from it - it is harder work than lunging so you are advised to not use it for quite as long. But I would reccomend it. I got mine from ebay quite cheaply. Just make sure you get one with english instructions! :D

Oh and it is best used with a training girth with all the extra rings on them to give you a bit more choice and adjustment.

Hope it helps!

It takes a bit of getting used to!

When I 1st got mine I took it out into the garden and lay it out on the patio with the diagram next to me to figure it out! Once you have it sorted then its fine! Basically you have one rope that goes round the back legs and that fastens on a training girth at the centre of the back. Then the other bit of rope which also comes from the round the backend (I think!) simply goes along each side fastening to the girth at the side (to stop it flapping aorund their legs ) and then the pulleys fasten to each of the bit rings.

It can also get nicely tangled when not in use!! After spending hours untangling it I keep mine attatched to the training girth in a box! :o

Once its on for the first time you may have to stop a few times to adjust it so that its even on each side. It took me a couple of gos to get it just right.
