Its my friend birthday soon and ive decided i'm going to buy her a mark rashid book (and then nick it and read it myself :p ). We've read some monty roberts, kelly marks, perry wood etc and i know a bit of parelli stuff. Anyway, basically i was wondering which of his book is best to start with?

I'd start with Horses never Lie- The Heart of Passive Leadership.
I think it is the concept of passive leadership that truly sets him apart from other NH people.
:)
But really none of his books would be a waste. They are all good! :)

I agree with KarinUS. Horses Never Lie is my favourite. But if you start with that and dont ever read the first two books, you'll miss a lot. So I'd order them too from the library.
The first three books hang together, Considering the horse was a more conventional introduction, describing how Mark Rashid learned to handle horses in a humane and understanding way from his own teacher "the Old Man". Then developing his approach through story telling about his experiences in A Good Horse is Never a Bad Colour and developing yet further in Horses Never Lie.
I'd leave the latest book, Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse till later. More about self-improvement than horse handling.
And it would be a pity to narrow Rashid down to "passive leadership" or assume that he is the only rider to delegate tasks and decisions to the horse.

Yes, I agree. I started with that one too. Well, not quite, I DID start on Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse but couldn't get into it. Horses Never Lie is a good one to start with :) I've now almost finished 'A Good Horse is Never a Bad Colour' and have the others lined up ready to read :)
