OK not famous - but well trained, well travelled ... renowned..not sure what you call it

Anyway, always had fun and learned heaps at Ramon's clinics, he doesn't blink an eye if you ask him about the most basic thing or the 'stupidest question in the world' I knew he was a really good rider (his arse just doesn't leave the saddle - ever, no matter what the horse is up to) and I knew he was head trainer\rider at some Andalucian shows and I had heard some vague reference to Nuno Oliveira. But then I find out much more about him - he was invited to ride with the Spanish Riding School (Vienna) during the 1970's tours of Europe and many more exciting things. You wouldn't know to talk to him ...well apparently I didn't :D Here's some old shots (he's dropped the moustache since :D )

Cool! What wonderful pictures.

Is this the same clinician you were working with when you posted that great thread about learning the real meaning of riding into the outside rein?

Yes, Ramon. He started out at The Alvaro Domecq Riding School. then went on to Royal School Of Equestrian Art Jerez de la Frontera Spain with Don Alvaro - which I believe has a different name now. Eventually came down to Australia where he was head trainer\rider for El Caballo Blanco in Perth and then Sydney (I actually went there on my very first trip across to Aussie when I was a teenager) and has been privately training and riding since they closed down.

The horse in this photo is a freisian stallion he owned and trained (later sold) and in this shot he is jumping him over 6ft - so he's not just a dressage rider. His latest venture is owning and training a couple of racehorses - he firmly believes that if racehorses are given the opportunity to do the basic gymnastic exercises they'll be able to use their bodies better and be generally more sound and sane - it'll be interesting to see how that pans out. :)

I am, of course, hoping that some of his talent will rub off :D :p Otherwise it can be very depressing when someone like this gets on your horse and transforms them in a few seconds (often with something you've been struggling with for months ... :o horses are such traitors! ;) )
