Hi Anyone got any tips on leg yeilding? and how do you know if you are doing it right? I was doinging it in a lesson but was on a youngster (5yr) and not sure if I could feel if I was doing it right?(Been mega years since I did it as a youngster) All my instructor said was that I may need a bit more one on one, I don't know if she meant private lessons or what but cant afford them or if she meant more time with that horse. As i say ive only done it one other time and on one other horse but did okay that time :D

We did these, if I remember rightly (feel free to correct me if not), you put your inside (closest to centre of school) leg just behind the girth and squeeze and release, squeeze and release whilst all the time asking to move forward with your other leg (nearest outside of the school).

I hope that is right anyway, and you can feel it, however I can only ever feel it when moving to the right?!

I find it hard to feel whether I'm doing lateral movements like leg yield right. A common problem is that horses don't move sideways straight but drift out through their shoulder, so make sure you have a good outside rein contact.
Youngsters will find leg yield hard, especially if they haven't had much practice. I've found some horses (including young ones) find it easier in trot as thats the pace in which leg yield should ideally be performed (or so I've heard!)
