My instructor has recommended Konigs. I have no experience with them, I'm just wondering what boots others have and like before I make the investment.
Thanks!

There are quite a few brands. It depends on how much you want to spend and the 'cut' that you like.

Probably the best thing to do is to look around and try lots of different boots on :)

When the time is right I'm going to have to go for customs which is a bummer :( For my foot size (4.5) they only ever seem to do the calf in twiglet size, even the 'wide' fitting doesn't fit without cutting off the blood to my feet :(

I actually have Tredstep gaiters and short boots, although you wouldn't realise this to see them, as the gaiters actually slot into the boots so they look like full length boots. Only drawback is that you can't get them any more in that design - the new design goes over the top so it is obvious that they are gaiters. I've competed up to Inter I, including national level and had no comments - on one occasion was judged in a class and then was writing for the same judge later in the day. She was gobsmacked when I took the gaiters off - she thought I had full length boots on!

Konigs are nice but expensive.
If you order over the internet you can get boots much cheaper from Germany. I've seen good Cavallo boots for about 200 Euros (they are about £250 - £300 in the UK  )

I have the exact opposite problem to Bay Mare - I cannot for the life of me find any boots small enough! I currently have a pair of size 5 1/2 Mountain Horse Sports Jodhpurs and a pair of cheap and almost child's size gaiters from Robinsons (which are currently drying out after Saturday's dressage in the torrential rain!). I tried on a few boots but gave up after realising that no-one makes long boots in a size 5 with 12" calves and 14" leg height! A friend suggested to me that I wait to buy boots when my legs might have widened a bit.
But if you don't find any long boots you like then jod boots and gaiters are very nice too, I like the Treadstep ones too.

I have size 7 clown feet with the most non-existant calves ever, and very long legs. In the end I went for a pair of regent boots for £140 which was very reasonable. They fit really well and are just about long enough, but still need nipping in around the calf a little.

In thinking of going for short boots and leather gaiters for a really good fit. Need a horse to show first though!

I'm another one with long, skinny legs  and I've got some Regent Oakley boots as they were the only ones I could find that were long enough. I've only worn them to ride in twice so I'm waiting for them to drop then I might get a zip put in as like Jojoba's, they could do with being a bit tighter.

I've got Cavallo long boots - I bought them second hand from a very tall, slim dressage rider at my yard. They're size eight feet, and very very tall and slim (52cm/20inch tall, 36cm/14inch calf) It would be fair to say that they cater for the twiggiest of twigs, and probably quite a wide leg too considering the variety of sizes available. They start at about £190, I'd reccomend mine, but it's not like I had much choice as to what boot I got, as I was being offered them at a bargain price ;)

It's not the greatest picture of them, and they are about 10 years old, so you can see they are surviving heavy dressage competition and eventing use!

Hi,

I must say that Königs are my favourites... I'm on my second pair a the moment.

Go for some with "edgestitches" at the soles since they are more durable :-)

Mine are long, and mainly used for dressage. When i occasionally use them for jumping, i get black marks in the "knee bend" :D Sorry my english anathomy is not that good... and especially not when referring to more specific human "parts"

I have Cavallo boots, and I must say that they are amazingly comfortable from the very first time you wear them, which does not seem to be the case with all boots!

I wear short boots and gaiters, I find them much easier than long boots, your feet don't get stuck on hot days and you wouldn't know the difference till you get up really close.

What ever you get, go for the best quality you can, and there are plenty of places you can get them second hand.

i have a pair of mountain horse sportive boots, like others I have oversized calfs so the elasticated back gives me a good fit. The sportive are more elegant than normal high rider ones.

Have heard of problems with made to measure Konigs taking ages to be delivered.....

For anyone with small feet and calf width problems then i would suggest looking at Equitectors (do a google search and you'll get the website) very sinilar to Mountain horse but seem to have a wider range of calf fittings
