Would it be possible to have a board for the younger members of NR? We the Mature Riders are catered for but teens such as my son might appreciate a board where they can discuss horsey things together?

Here here! Strictly only horse stuff, no chatting about boys or school allowed, and I think it could work!

Ooh I think that would be a good idea too! There has been an increase in the amount of the younger people joining :)

I think it has been suggested several times before but for some reason the 'youngsters' said they don't want no 'kiddie board' ;) :D

Well , a thread was strated up about this ages ago ( and I mean ages ago , like a year or 2 ago ) , and mike said no . here (http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23148) it is if anyone wan'ts to look at it . I think iy would be a good idea , but I'd still use the other boards as well . Maybe mike will have changed his mind , I hope he has . :D ;)

There are some very good points raised in that thread! Its true about the text talk, and I can see why others may not want it.

We've discussed the idea of a board specifically for the younger members a couple of times before. The general consensus seems to be that although well intentioned, the time it would take to moderate and keep up such a board would be impossible. The ideal is that people of all ages could enjoy NR, and usually it works. But it is the younger members (generally) that we have to spend the most time moderating. So for the time being, NR will not have a board specifically for the younger memebers.

Echo what Katie has just said. It has beem asked for again and again millions of times before (and the teens do want it - they asked for it!) but it just isn't 'viable'.

No it is for all the reasons mentioned above.

I think one board for everyone's best I personally like to see everyone's views and opinions whether you are younger or older. Everyone makes a valuable contribution. If we did have an 'Older and younger' board, I worry that the older board would contain 'granny talk' and that wouldn't be interesting at all. I am an older user myself but I prefer to see the views and opinions of as wide a range of people as possible, not just my own age group!

Me too! I'm an 'older' (more mature? nah!) user too and tend to go on 'Mature Riders' less than anywhere else. As long as the threads are moderated well (which they generally are) then there shouldn't be a problem. The 'kids' generally behave pretty well anyway even if their enthusiasm does have to be reined in occasionally :D I can't really comment on the 'older' members behaviour ... ;)

weeeelll, actually I brought it up cos I got a bit of an OTT reaction to something I posted lately thought it a bit odd, Pm'ed the person so no hard feelings but no reply  then on another thread saw this person reveal their age and realised I wasnt dealing with an adult but a young teen so hey ho all was suddenly clear. If there were a 'teens' board all the bad feelings (and slagging off I got) could have been avoided as I wouldnt have replied!
Does that put a different spin on it?

i think i quite like the fact that all the boards (bar the mature riders one) have people of all ages on it. its nice to get a young person's view of stuff :)

In a way it's quite nice to have the anonymity of not knowing how old anyone is - I probably wouldn't normally write to someone of say, 16, but then after the correspondence you find out that they're young - or you're old, must try the mature riders board too then.

Yep!

I like the mix too - doesn't matter what a person's age is and as for going off on one...well it could happen to anyone given the right...or is that wrong  circumstances. :D

When I first posted on here I said a hello in the cafe and was posting mainly to Mature Riders but there is all sorts of other stuff going on and I think I have probably learned quite a lot reading all of the different threads on all of the boards.
In fact I just go the New Posts now to see whats happening ;)

I guess as I get older (eek!) I want young people corralled more and more ....grrr... youth is no excuse for bad manners but its an explanation alright!!! :D
