OK I'm confused. I am getting a horse on trial and want to try him in a dressage comeptition to see what he's like in a competition but the only one I can do is an affiliated competition. I entered the first class (P7) on a ticket but then had an email back asking if I wanted to do class 1 or 2, apparently I can do either and only need to be on a ticket for class 2. Heres the lineage from the schedule...
Class 1a Prelim 7 (2002). Open to members or non-members of BD. Horses not to have won more than 37 points.
Class 1b Prelim 7Q (2002). Open to members of BD rider groups 4-8. Groups 7 & 8 eligible to qualify. Horses not to have won more than 37 points.
Anyone tell me what the difference is?

Ditz,
Will try and reply as have been looking into the same thing recently. Someone pleae correct me if I'm wrong as it is pretty confusing.
The 7Q class is the qualifier class where the class winner qualifies for the regionals (I think they may also have to win a second class during the season but it needn't be a qualifying one). I think you can enter this one on a class ticket but if you qualify, you then have to be registered before competing in the regionals. Whereas the standard Prelim 7 is open to members and non-members and both qualify for placings. If you are just going to experience an affiliated competition, you may as well enter class 1a as the competition will be less. But if you think you have a chance of winning and would be keen to go on to the regionals, then class 1b would be better.
I think thats correct. Am sure someone will say if not.
Good luck.

I have asked about this before on this board, look for my post below somewhere called 'Confused about affiliated'. Someone on there told me something along the lines of you can enter as an unaffiliated rider on an affiliated or unaffiliated horse in an A section (the P7 on your schedule, not the qualifier), but you'd have to have a class ticket for the B section (P7Q). It's all explained in the BD rules (available on www.britishdressage.co.uk on the 'Library' bit) or on my old thread there was a better explanation.
So if I were you I'd go for the section A (non-qualifier P7) as you won't need to use your class ticket.
*I hope I've got it all right!!!*
