Ive just finished my final year at Oxford - THINK ive got a 2:1. Gonna be doing my MA starting in September. Not bad for a 39 year old that left school with 1 GCSE. :p

I'll be going into my second year at York uni, doing English and History of Art combined (yes, i'm a lazy Arts student!)
Kind of wish I was doing something horsey though, guess that'll have to wait til this degree's over.

I should be going to Lancaster in September to study English Literature, Creative Writing and Fine Art (Lancaster is unusual in that it splits it's first year equally 3 ways between 3 subjects).
However I think Ive chickened out. I dont want to go yet, and I dont want to leave my horse (yet or at all!). Plus the idea of going straight from school to Uni is not appealing.
So Ive got a place on a course doing Foundation Art for a year, at Chesterfield College (not too far from me).
Unfortunately it means I may lose my uni place - but Im not thinking about that until after exams because it's too depressing!

jojoba you can ask them to defer your uni place for a year! they did for some of my friends!

Kanuma - that's the plan, but you're not allowed to defer entry if you are staying in full time education, so I will have to lie about that!

Did a last minute deferral work out alright for your friends then?
What excuse did they use?

Jojoba, to my knowledge, a uni will not hold your place if you are staying in full time education. a lot of my friends did a years college course after school and had to re-apply to get a place at uni. you could lie but i wouldn't advise it. the uni will probably find out and then it would be a serious matter!!

i graduated last year :) still at uni though. doing a research MSc and am waiting to hear about a PhD. find out today about one of them. i'm terrified!!

It's easy to chicken out of uni but I would definitely stick with it. It's such a great experience that you will be settled and happy in no time. I went straight to uni after doing my A-levels and it's been great. I'm starting my final year in September and plan to go travelling once I've got my degree. IMO it's better to get the education out the way before you take a year off. If you take time off before uni you will get out of study mode, and when you finally do start it will be so much harder!
My best friend took a gap year and ended up deciding not to take her place at uni because she enjoyed a break from study. But now she really wishes she had gone to uni straight after A-levels, because she kept finding excuses not to go and is now jealous of all the fun I've had at uni these past two years.
