Ok. I think I've missed one of Ebbys jabs - but I am utterly confused by it all!
She didn't come with a vaccination card so the vet came and did her one and gave her Duvaxyn Iet on the 20/2/2004. He then came out again on the the 28/4/2004 to give Duvaxyn T. This is the Tetnus and Flu jab isn't it? So, from that, I should have had her done on the 28/4/2005 - though she hasn't been done, I had the vet out for an emergency and she didn't say anything about it then.
Do I have to start again now, with the first jab then the next a couple of weeks later and then every year on the dot I'm guessing as with Flu you have to have it bang on the yearly date don't you?
It was so much easier with the last horse, I only had him six months

you will need to restart the vaccines again i think. they really do need to be done same time every year.

It really depends on what you want to do with her....
Vaccinations actually "last" for about 18 months, so she isn't about to contract Tetanus or Flu however, a lot of governing bodies eg. BSJA, race courses, sales, BE require that you vaccinate within 365 days.
Please do check this with your vet but if you're only doing local shows and stuff at home then you could get away with having her jab done now with no side effects. If you want to do anything more then that youwill have to start her again  GIven the number of animals they treat, the vet probably has no idea when each one is due their vaccinations :)

Sophini - all we do is hack and I went to one local show last year - but I guess I'll just have to start again (and they still haven't sent me a vet bill from last summer :D ).
Cheers!

I think Duvaxyn is flu and tet, it's what my horse has had anyway and she had one that did both. I was told to have second one 4-6 weeks after the first, the another one 6 months later then yearly from then on. It's best to discuss it with your vet but often being slightly out on the correct date isn't a problem but being way out is and you'd need to start the course again. Flu isn't that essential unless you are competing but tetanus is quite an important one to have. After the initial course and a couple of boosters I think it's okay for a couple of years or more but it's best to stick to what vet recommends with tetanus. Vets don't usually bother reminding you about that kind of thing even if they are out for something else, unless they need to know if vaccinations are up to date for something related to why you called them out.

I've let Bebe's vaccinations go for a month or more over the due date without any problems. It's only if you're competing that they have to be done bang on the due date and if you miss it you have to restart the course.
As far as I know the flu vacc' actually lasts 2yrs anyway. The vaccine is being constantly updated to try and cope with new strains that mutate which is why BSJA, etc require it to be done more often (The Jockey club requires it to be done every 6 months and it looks like other clubs & associations will be doing the same soon).
Tetanus is yearly but boosters can be given at the time of injury, etc if it really comes to it. I know it's not ideal to do it this way but it can be done.

i'd check with the vet but i think its a case of start again
first jab is given , then 21 - 92 days later 2nd , its not until the horse has the 2nd that its actually covered , then you have a 3rd 150 - 215 days after the second , then onto the annual routine

I agree that you'll probably have to start again. As well as for competitions, thse are some livery yards that will not accept a horse unless its vaccinations are fully up to date and that there is proof of this. And these needn't necessarily just be the big professional yards. I've had it happen to me on a small DIY yard before now. So, if anything should happen and you need to move yards, you could find that without an up-to-date certificate, you can't get into the yard you like.
It is a pain in the bum (same thing happened with my old horse) but you are probably better off getting it sorted, just in case.
