can anyone tell me what movements I would need to be able to do to do this test?

sorry dont know 17 to be honest but as far as I'm aware all prelims are just walk trot and canter with the circles being 20m. Quite straight forwards.

so there's no travers/shoulder-in/leg yielding/counter canter?

no none whatsoever. if i remember right in prelim 18 you canter across the diagonal which is supposed to be the start of the development required for counter canter but it doesnt actually demand the action. just walk trot and canter. if you want a copy of the test try www.dressagediagrams.com where you can buy it online for £2.

Prelim 10 is canter across the diagonal.

P18 is quite nice, just has a serpentine.

P17 along with P16 are long arenas, P17 has half 15metre circles, ridden the same way as P10's half 10mtrs.

Counter canter starts at Novice level.

Leg-yielding at Elementary (although the test principles state shoulder-in it was removed from the tests this year).

Shoulder-in, half pass and travers at medium level.
