View Full Version : Hmm, how to not embarass myself.

There is a possibility that I will be viewing a horse to buy soon, and by the sounds of his advert he's strong and fast. When I'm riding him at the viewing, how can I not humiliate myself if he starts getting too fast and too strong? Normally I just lose it :p

I was thinking to do lots of circle work to get him listening to me and things along the same line, what do you think?

I would see him being ridden and make a judgement at that time as to whether you want to get on him or not.

After all, if you are already worrying about how you will cope with him, why go to see him? Your gut instinct is that he is going to be a difficult horse for you to cope with, so why do you want to try him?

Watch him being ridden and see how he goes. if you decide to ride him, walk him, circle him, try a trot but there is no law that says you have to canter and there is nothing to prevent you riding one circuit, getting off and that's it.

I went to see a horse before I bought Molly, watched him being ridden, and just said to them sorry not for me. that was that. no one felt bad about it. he was a weaving in the stable, very upset, had just moved yards, and the guy riding him was very good and the horse was very forward. Not what I was looking for at all.

Thanks for that, it's mostly been my sisters tormenting that's put me off.
