problem

i competed 2day in the preliminary 16 dressage @ sparsholt festival of dressage. well it wasn;t a complete disater just a slight one, to begin with mainly my fault we arrived late and i only had 5 mins to warm up & he takes a good 20 mins to warm up and start goin on the bit and working from his hindquarters in an outline.
so all a bit of a rush. we get into the test arena and it;s outside so he;s having a bit of a look at everything and every time we go past the judges box or his owner he makes a loop around them away from them no matter how much inside leg i use!
the actual test itself - he was shaking his head to much and he wasn;t supple enough and laterally stiff, a bit unbalanced on his 15m circles @ p & R. his canter on his left rein, his bad one, was appauling! he stricked off on the wrong leg, then was disunited and then fell back into trot but we did get it eventually although he was more shooting forward in canter and more on his forhand instead of up and sitting back on his hocks.
he did have some nice parts of the test when he become more supple, rounder and working from behind and the best part was going down the centre line and halting!
lol & to top it off i was wearing boots that were way to wide so were moving to much!
there was a photographer in the warm up arena & he only got pics of me after my test when i took him in there to "work on him" but they were absolutely shocking pictures of us!
however the good sides is - he did work nicely at times, it's only his 2nd dressage test so i'm not to worried it;s all a learning curve for him. his owner understood and we both relised it wasn;t his day today we could tell that when i got him out the stable, and i told his owner it was going to be a disater on the way to the arena.
i haven;t got my test sheet yet but i basically know what it will say.
my score was 53.4% or something so not absoluetely appualling!
i am pleased that he stood by the trailer and loaded beautifully, so basically i treated today as an learning experience for him and a schooling show.
soz bout the longness! will post pics soon!
