But i'm really starting to enjoy dressage. I have always enjoyed flatwork, but with a view to jumping. But for the last few days, sitting on my very comfortable WOW saddle, and riding the very talented Tiff. I actually went into the 'zone'.

Where I was completly absorbed and un-aware of external influences. Really wierd, but lovely. Sounds ridiculous, I know. My friend said she was talking to me, and kept repeating herself but I was "away". :)

Riding is the closest I can get to meditation :) If I get absorbed in flatwork...or even just feeling the movement of the horse...I completely lose the rest of the world. Way back when I used to give lessons while also riding myself. I tried it a few times after we moved here--to give John lessons or pointers while out riding with him. Can't do it anymore. I'm so enthralled by the ride that I forget I'm supposed to be watching him and offering comments.

It's not heresy to enoy riding ;) even if it is "just dressage."

I realized the other day a good dressage lesson is half therapy/half college education. Life always seems better after an hour immersed in the art and mechanics and concentration of dressage. And that intense focus and everything I'm learning-mechanical and historical- has filled the "learning" part of me that has been quite bored and empty since graduating college. I'm equally right brained and left brained and dressage is the closest anything has ever come to completely meeting my artistic and mechanical sides.

Okay, that's my ode to dressage. :p

Know what you mean by the Zone. Was schooling Si recently. It wasn't until i let the reins out for him to stretch that a noticed a line of people along the school watching.
So all you got to do now is get stuck in to XC and we have another......EVENTER :D
