Just wondered in anybody had tried this, http://www.fizzcoachingclinic.com/kit/index.php and if so what were their thoughts?

I'm an older rider (well 34!) and at times have moments of extreme self doubt, and just completely bottle out. For example the other week at a show, the first I have been to with my horse this year, he began to have a dippy fit bucking and being silly when the other horse we came with went off. When he stopped, I just got off and didn't get back on. What a waste. Then felt really bad and still do, let myself down, the people I was with and most of all my horse! This is now manifesting itself.

I've got a show next week, which I was undecided about, but now half my family are going! So have to enter one class, just the ridden coloured and leave it at that.

NEver had a pony/horse when younger and so it's all very new to me, that cool calm confidence people think I have most of the time just a front! Now starting to make excuses not to ride, such as it's too hot, got a headache, bit late etc.

Just need to get back on track somehow!!!

I'm not familiar with that particular package, but I certainly have used Sports and Cognitive Psychology techniques successfully.

As a Psychologist myself, I know the strategies, in theory, but seeing them written down (or spoken by someone else) and applied to riding helps remind me to actually use them. My own favorite reminder is Jane Savoie's "That Winning Feeling," but the basic techniques will likely be quite similar whoever is presenting them.

This looks like a pretty neat kit to me. I like how it includes the DVD and space to keep checklists and tests. Very cool!

I am one/was one of Tina's Fizz clients and have found the method very succesful.

Tina is thinking if running a course in Leicestershire and there are threads here in Mature Riders and also in Training the Rider forum.

If there are enough people interested at an alternative location then Tina may come out to give a session. There was also some interest in dismounted workshops too.

NicolaJ - you sound spookily like me! I am always ready to get off at the first sign of trouble, before I fall off. On Friday I had my first EVER solo hack, and was quite chilled; sometimes I can talk myself into things, other times I am(like you) full of self-doubt (I am 35 and have only had my horse 3 years).

Hi GingerThing,

Yep, it's amazing, some days I'm just so full of confidence it's untrue, then wallop, down you come! Anyway, well done you for going out on your own!!! :D

After the incident at the show, I was seriously talking about selling him, giving up or just getting a really safe 'plod'! Hubby 'told' me that I am not selling him! He's right of course, just need to keep the confidence going, 'fake it till you make it!' Keep telling myself that, at times it works!

Need to start moving out of my comfort zone, go out for a hack round the village where he lives, used to do that quite happily alone, but haven't been out for ages so confidence goes walkies! Problem where we are, although quite rural, virtually no bridle paths, so nowhere to go for a canter to check out how he is, need to travel for off road riding! All this really doesn't help.
