Hi. I wasnt really sure where to post this :s I just needed advice. I tried to find an image of the fencing in Stumpy's field but i cant so I am afraid your're going to have to use your imaginations.

The farm where I keep Stumpy isnt a proper livery yard, its a field where I keep my horse. The farmer of the fields does his best to maintain the fencing but i guess it's in his best interests to do that cheaply as poss - only problem is the type of fencing he uses.

It's currently wooden posts but the top line is barbed wire  and from the ground upwards its a kind of large square/holed fencing. Only problem is that Stumpy keeps putting her hoof through it

Basically, after blabbing on, this fencing is becoming dangerous because Stumpy had some caught in her hoof/shoe today - and the farming is getting peeved with me cos Stumpy keeps ruining his fence!!

What can I suggest to him to keep the fencing better?

This image is the best I could find - the holes are bigger though.
Please bear with me.

Can't see the picture, but I'd suggest a line of electric fencing just inside his fence, to keep Stumpy away from it :)

This should be the image.

Sounds like sheep netting. We have the same stuff (farmer's favourite!) along our fields too. Usually they do this when there's something on the other side they want to get near... I had a colt that did the same trying to get to a mare, a couple of fatties that did it when there was grass the other side. Is there anything appealing about the other side of the fence?

The best cure is just to deny her access to it - a single strand of electric tape usually works.

You have my sympathy though - it's a pain when they do start, and such a worry that they'll get a foot stuck.

ha!!! that is EXACTLY the type of fencing we have around our field perimeter!! tbh, we haven't had any problems with it. its properly tensioned and the holes in the chicken wire stuff seem quite small. neither of mine have got themselves stuck *touch wood*. i echo chev, a strand of leccy fencing may just be enough to keep her away from it.

Chev, I think it is the longer grass on the other side if i think about it!
EB, our type of fencing is not at all taut so she often gets stuck. Many time i've had to fish her out of the bloody thing!

we have the same around our fields - as previously mentioned, a line of electric tape in front of it does the trick!
