Could anyone please tell me how to get rid of ear mites?

I have to confess I hadn't even noticed little scabs in my horses ears (I guess this is cased by ear mites), as he is too tall for me to see.

My Dad spotted the scabs yesterday. I am unsure what to put on the inside of the ears.It doesn't seem to be annoying my horse at all..he has such small ears too!

I put a bit of my famous pink healer gunky gel (which I use for grazes, mud fever e.t.c) on last night but I am sure there is another cure.

Any advice, please?
Many thanks,

Its quite possibly not ear mites, unless you have found mites in there I would guess its more likely to be fly bites, all of my three get them, its just that the thin skin in the ear is so perfect for the bugs to chomp on they can't resist it :p

With bug bites they seem to get flakey skin and also lots of little scabs in there, I normally rub them all out then just use a grease with a fly repelant in it to coat the inside of the ear, or put a face mask with ear nets on.

Oh great..that's sounds a whole lot better.I am doing the right thing then.

My horse isn't bothered at all but he does have a touch of sweet itch too, so I expect he is extra sensitive to midges..he does live on a farm too...dammed midges!!
Thanks for the advice

Caroline :)

Mine has just had ear mites, I used Front line spray for cats and dogs but it isnt licensed for use in horses yet the vet told me to use it as he uses it on his horses. I also used some steroid cream. They were nearlly gone the next day!!
