Does anyone know of any good supplements that i can give to an old (30yrs) pony to help with anaemia - i'm just reworming her and she's had her teeth done in the last month. She's on good grazing so i know that will help but she could do with a little boost.

thks

Why not try some of the feeds for veterans / seniors, these will have necessary daily vitamins / minerals in them. There are plenty of mineral and vitamin supplements on the market, need to research what is best for your horse really. Could also phone up different feed lines and speak to the nutionalists for their recommendation. Also would a probiotic help with digestion as well, as may help get the most from each feed than at present.
Sorry cannot be of any more specific help.
We have used Equivite and Global Herbs, as both cobby types and on grass / hay - so use it just to ensure that they get daily vitamins / minerals they need, as we do not feed concentrates at all.

You need to find out why the pony is anaemic. Unlike us it is usually not an iron deficiency. It can be a lack of another mineral or an oversupply of a mineral that causes incorrect iron uptake. I assume that you vet has identified the anaemia and therefore should also be able to identify why and give you the correct supplements.

Ok thanks. Vet is analysying blood samples further. In meantime, she is on a "specialist feed and diet".

I am sure that NAF products do something for this. I had a problem with an elderly horse some years ago.
