Hiya,

I've got a few questions. Well one, really!
I saw an advert in Horse & Hound for an affiliated (I think) county show. The classes were HOYS qualifiers and the likes, but do you have to be affiliated to a showing society to enter these? Or can you enter them, but just not go to HOYS etc in the (unlikely!) event of winning?

But also a little congratulations piece to my lubbly horsey! We won the showing championship at the show we went to on Monday :D ! We came 2nd in Riding Club Horse (seemingly the only position we CAN come in this class - 3 shows and I'm always placed 2nd in it!), 1st in Show Hunter, 1st in Working Hunter and 2nd in Hunter in-hand! So I think that it is safe to assume that Foxy is a hunter type, despite being a small one (he's only 16 hands bless him, he looked minute compared to some of them!)!

it varies according to the class - some you have to have a qualifying card beforehand, and some you can just go in. most affliliated classes require you to be a member of the society they're afflicted to though. if you don't have to be a member, and you don't need a card, and you do win, they normalyl ask you to say so at the prizegiving so the second placed horse can get organised there and then, go in championships etc, as sometimes it's section winners who compete for the qualification in a championship.
depends on the class though. i'd recomend ringing the secretary and checking before you enter.

Thank you :D ! I think Foxy paid the judge, he refused to canter at one point in our show (I think I managed to make it look like I'd intended to go right in trot, rather than left in canter!), and didn't halt square, but the judges seemed to love him!

What class are you wanting to do at the show? If it is a HOYS qualifier for Show Hunters, Working Hunters, Hacks, Cobs or Riding Horses you will have to be registered with the relevant society, however often shows with HOYS classes also have novice classes which are not HOYS classes and non-registered horses and riders can entered (as long as your horse is still a novice under the rules of the society - usually not to have won a first or over a certain amount of money in classes affiliated to that society)

Well done on your results from before.
