i'd keep him on a deep bed for a while yet, my mare has been lammy free *touch wood* for nearly a year and is still on a slightly deeper bed than normal to give her maximum support and comfort :)

Flashie has been lammy free for about a year and a half and is out all the time now but come winter, I deep bed her just for her own comfort because unlike Amber she tends to stand in the one spot in the stable at night and doesn't lie down much so I'd rather give her as much support as I can. I have a patch of mud beside the water trough that I keep damp and she spends alot of time standing there when in the field, especially in this hot weather - its her own wee patch of comfort!

So is Flashie in a bare paddock or does she wear a grazing muzzle....or neither.Just getting conflicting advice as to how long he can go out for etc...so would love some opinions.

its fairly bare now because there are two other horses on it but for most of May and June I muzzled her plus I know longer feed her cool mix, I get a pasture mix by Dodson and Horrell which is approved by the laminitis trust but of course only feed according to what she is doing work wise which hasn't been much because she has had terrible mastitis which has been coming and going for about 6 weeks now (she's under vet supervision for it). She hasn't put on any weight though and has stayed quite trim this year which has also helped matters.
I rake up this muddy patch and wet it too and she loves it, its like a little cooling haven for her! Amber and Matilda don't get a look in!
