I'm sorry, I know this has been covered before but I am looking to buy rubber mats in the next week or so and just don't know where to start as there are so many manufacturers online.

I have a limit of £400 tops and my stable is quite big (14'3 x 14'6) so I can't afford Equimats or Fieldguard. Can anyone please advise any other brand that has proven to be good and is likely to come in at less than £400.

thanks as always.

I bought rubber matting from my local tack shop, it cost £175 for a 12' x 10' stable. They do the job perfectly well, although they were hard work to fit because they are very heavy. I also have a stable done in Equimat, which I much prefer but as you say it is expensive.
It could be worth asking around if anyone knows a supplier near you.

Thanks. Took your advice and called the local tackshop but they said it it such a minefield that they don't want to get into it. So will have to stick with looking via the internet.

we have the Fieldguard ones which are still going strong since 1992.

if you ring them they someimes have some second hand ones as folks buy them and don't get on with them.

but if you are going to use them you need a sloping floor with a drain/outlet for the urine to run away.

Thanks everyone. Rache, Quattro called me with a quote this morning and after you saying you have them, I decided to go with them. It will be £381 all in including delivery and sealing (although they can still be taken up if I move). They also have a 10 year guarantee which none of the other have offered me and are 18mm thick. He asked about the size of my horse etc so he could choose the right mats and I thought he offered the best service all-round so opted for them. They'll be fitted by the end of the week. :D :D

Just havent had the money to have it done yet!lol

Change of plan. Called the people who make the Aquamax bedding that I'm planning to use and they also do rubber matting called Aquamats. Was quoted £317 all in although they do not seal them and advised that you don't actually need to if they fit properly. They can also deliver 20 bags of the bedding at the same time for £1 per bag less than the tack shop sells it. So am thinking they'd be the better option.

Both companies are now playing each other off and saying that their product is better. I'm thinking of using the Aquamats people as its easier to get everything in one go but the bloke at Quattro is trying to persuade me that his mats are the best by far and that a horse as big as Arnie will need the Quattro mats. Am gonna ring Aquamats and if they can give a good enough counter-argument, will go with them.

Cor blimey, what a fisaco!!!

i do like the quattro BUT they are alot thinner than your average matt. To me its not very comfy for them to lie on where as now we have the top stuff and i pay extra a month to use it and its like a mattress very springy!

Thing is that Quattro apparently do quite a few different types of mat so it depends which ones you are using. The ones they quoted for me (because Arnie is so heavy) were the top of the range 18mm ones, but the Aquamat ones that I am going for are 17mm which are still pretty chunky. Quattro did seem good but its just easier to get the bedding at the same time rather than having to order it and wait 3 weeks for it to arrive. That would mean starting on shavings and then switching over which would have been a pain.

i had the most expensive too as baz was 16h2 and it was the best they have and i still found it a little too thin for my liking.. but thats me. I love the rubber matting now as i only need to put up banks as the rubber matting is a bed in itself!

Have you had samples from both before rushing?

I know it makes sense to get bedding and matts from same place..

Yep, have got the Aquamat sample and am very happy with it. Has slightly raised dimply things which I like and looks a really good quality. Only thing now is that I can't get hold of the bloke to confirm the flippin' order.

I have had 3 lots of rubber matting from ebay and they have been really good. I paid just over £200 for a 12x12 stable

Simlar to these :

You have to fit them yourself but luckily I had my father-in-law nearby.
