View Full Version : Does Cornucrescine actually help hooves to grow?

I was thinking of buying some for my ponies (who I keep barefoot) to help their feet stay in good condition and to help them cope without wearing too much (we haven't had any problems yet touch wood, but the healthier their hooves and the less worn down they are, the easier they'll be able to cope). However, before I buy some, has anyone used it before and does it actually work? And how much/how often did you apply it? It supposedly encourages their hooves to grow as well as making the horn stronger and healthier... but I want to know whether it's true or not! :)

ive used it on star and it does work, it also work wonders on your nails! :D as well as putting a bit on any bald patches on your horse to help the hair grow quicker but not on open cuts or anything

For barefoot ponies having plenty of inner wall is most important so putting stuff on to toughen up the outer wall or encourage it to grow can be a bit of a waste of money unless the outer wall is really weak (outer wall protects the inner wall). Ideally you want thick inner wall to stop feet wearing too quickly so not much point putting stuff on to speed up outer wall growth.

Cornucrescine is a mild blister so works by encouraging blood flow to the hooves. So yes it does work, and has also been used on getting lost hair to regrow as well ! But there may be other options for you to consider, as its not just rgwoth you want, its strength as well !

keratex hoof hardener is also brilliant it worked immediately and helped stop stars feet cracking any further and keep his shoes on it is more expensive but you only put it on twice a week for the first two weeks then once a week after that and it also helps horses that used to have shoes able to not wear shoes

I think I'll get some then... sounds like it's pretty good stuff! I had a look at Keratex, but Cornucrescine was cheaper... I'm a rider with a very limited budget :D

keratex may be expensive but is well worth it. the improvement in my horses feet has been dramatic. and it really lasts. i bought a bottle of the hoof hardener 4 months ago and its still 2/3rds full. and we use it 2-3 times a week on the hoof wall and sole.

My farrier told me to put cornucrescene on only 3 times a week.
