I've just spent three days holiday at my riding school on a kind of intensive course. It was brilliant, I loved it, and in the before and after video the instructor took you can definitely see an improvement in my riding. I actually got how to relax and wiggle my hips to sitting trot, and can now more or less sit to canter instead of bouncing around. My leg position improved. I even tried a teeny jump - wow! I would definitely like to try to get better at that - it was great :D
But, apart from my numerous faults which are still visible even to my novice eyes (god my hands do not stay still!) the most embarrassing aspect of the videos were my terrible bosom bounce. I am not flat chested, but I was wearing my running bra (shock absorber level 4) so I thought they'd be reasonably static - but they are not - I was luck not to get black eyes!! Please what do curvier riders wear to prevent too much jiggle?
Thanks!

Try a Marks and Spencer Minimiser, it's the only one I've found that holds mine down good and tight :D

Haha I have that same problem. Wes took this picture, and I was trying to figure out why my neck was sticking out. I figured out it was to avoid getting hit in the eye :p

I wear a Panache sports bra (from http://www.bravissimo.com). They also sell a couple of other makes of sports bra. Alternatively, one bra on top of the other also works :D :D :D :D :D

i feel your pain!
but if its any consolation i also have the worlds most gorgeous man as my instructor so after spending months worrying about being sweaty, mucky out of breath and rubbish at riding that ive a bouncing chest is the least of my worries! :D
ive a shock absorber bra by DuPont its good but i also find it useful to go down a cup size. so im a 32D i got a 32c. squashes it all in and its v comfortable. i used to have an underwired one from marks an sparks and it was quite uncomfortable around my ribs but v supportive

I had a private lesson once with a new male instructor. Sensibly, I decided to wear a sports bra. Foolishly I chose the one with the dodgy strap. Half way though the lesson I was asked to do some work in sitting trot and the strap slipped off my shoulder - so I hoiked it back up again. Down it went again, up I yanked it again. And so we went on. That was bad enough but I wanted to die during the last 10 minutes of the lesson, which were spent doing sitting trot up the centre line " to see how straight we were". Aye right!!

one bra on top of the other also works
I go with that option, I go out and find a sports bra that I like, buy one in my size and then buy one, that is one cup size smaller. Bigger one on bottom then the smaller one to hold everything in.

Ah yes - the two bra option as worn by Ambatt on Andalusians!
Stopped everything wobbling I can tell you!

I'd second Marks and Spencer sports bras - not underwired though! They are about £25 and definitely keep everything where it should be. I also found that as mine had a relatively high cotton content it kept me fairly sweat free!

Best thing that I've ever found are the Danz-Ez Minimal Bounce Bras. They are like a crop top and come in a variety of colours and are available at dance shops and from the on-line shop. Apart from being really comfortable and supportive they look MUCH better than those horrid sports bra things. Oh, and they're less sweaty too :)

Another reason to wear a good bra- one of my riders came in a strappy top (not recommended at the best of times!) and every time she tried to trot, the straps came down and the top ended up around her waist!! :o

I have an adidas bikini - the one with the crop top and little shorts. I find the crop top brilliant for holding everything in place and always use it under my show shirt. Mind you, I'm not too blessed in that department so probably need less support

Thanks everyone - guess it's time I went shopping! I think I'll try the one on top of the other option. And yes, I have been fitted for a bra, but I've lost weight since so maybe my bras are a bit big now.

Hi all
do watch with the "bra on bra" option as I seem to remember that there is research that says that bras that restrict the circulation increase the liklihood of the C-word :(
One other thing tho, as a currently DD chest :( - posture makes a big difference. If I slump and round my shoulders, everything is unsupported and moves about a lot more. If I open out, breathe, engage abs etc (i.e. ride and sit properly) its a whole lot better.
Doesn't stop it all moving - but with a well fitted sports bra, it helps a lot :D

Underwired bras aren't generally recommended for riding - I think they can give you a nasty injury if you have a fall.

I've been using Mountain Horse riding bras for years now. Brilliant. They keep everything in place... I wish I could say the same about their string pants, not the ideal for riding.

I think I have tried the entire world's supply of sports and equestrian bras! The problem as I see it is that if they are firm enough to stop you wobbling they squash you flat so you are uncomfortable and you don't get a nice line under a jacket either. I have given up on sports bras and have found by process of elimination that the best bra for riding is the Triumph "Doreen" bra. It has wide straps, deep sides and back and 3 different hook positions, a high cut at the front, gives you good uplift and holds you where you put it.(You can get it in medium and long as well as the normal length but I've only tried the standard ones). It isn't very sexy but it's comfy and does the trick. Any bra that can withstand sitting trot on a side saddle on a horse with industrial-strength springs in its legs will stand up to anything an astride rider can throw at it. This bra also gives a very elegant and feminine line under a sidesaddle habit coat which most sports bras don't.
The sizes are a bit strange though so best to buy it where you can be helped by a trained bra fitter.
Ladies, I promise you that this is the end of all your "bounce" problems! (Triumph should pay me for this - my local branch of John Lewis is now recommending "Doreen" to riders on the strength of my recommendations and is doing a roaring trade.)

i have an ENELL sports bra. it is a god send!!!
i have a large chest. I had to wait for it because there is a shortage thanks to Oprah saying it was so good. but well worth the wait. very comfortable. they do loads of sizes and can make it to fit if they dont do your size.

I've got 2 from M & S - they both can sort of separate and lift a bit (think those old Playtex ads :D ) but there's definitely no bounce, the View From (their sports department) one I have is comfier than the standard M & S sports one. Plus a couple of crop top ones - the best of which is a Nike - in bright blue and it wicks away moisture so while my face goes scarlet and sweat drips off my face my boobs are nice and dry :o
Please don't get an underwired bra - there's a real danger that the wire will come out and puncture you, your boob/rib cage or armpit are all in serious danger. I know that they're now made in underwired but it's a really dangerous thing, also it's not too good for your boobs to wear 2 bras at once, especially if one's smaller than the other - no support, restrictive, bad for the circulation.

I like the Berelei shock absorber impact level 3 - as modelled by Anna Kournikova - shame I don't look *quite* the same in mine :p but it does keep them under control!!

I use the Berlie shock absorber, I weigh 10 stone and have 34 e boobs and they keep them under control. Bravissimo is a really good company for girls that have 'assets' and do lots of pretty things in large cup sizes as well as sporty stuff. They also do vest tops and halter necks with built in bras so you dont have any straps showing at all. You can order on the internet and they also have a big shop in Leeds. I know its a bit off thread but m and s magic pants (the shorts) are great under johds. They pull all your wobbly bits in and there is no vpl at all. ;)

Regarding vest tops - I don't wear vests or very revealing tops when riding as there is no protection against cuts and grazes when (sorry, IF) you come off. Even a shortsleeved cotton shirt or tee-shirt gives some protection. (Hope you all have your tetanus shots up to date - the bacillus lives in horse manure and gets into the body through cuts in the skin)

I use the body protector squash you tight method. My young instructor (all the young staff hack in strappy tops and look right glamorous) recommends Sweaty Betty cross over.

I have the same problem.. am a 34DD and have shock absorbers (too warm and end up with one strange looking huge boob!), normal underwired bras (can be plain uncomfortable when they dig in) but my most embarrasing has to be cantering in a balconette bra through the woods in a vest top... my boobs literally bounced out the top of the bra!! Needless to say I now wear bigger bras and a shirt over the top (also helpful as my horse like to get in close to bushes etc!).

I use the Shock Absorber (level 3 I think), a size smaller than generally, so tolerably snug. It doesn't give me a monoboob, but the 'snug' fit does make them go sideways a bit, so not a great outline :D
When I ride out, the body protector does a great job.
Doreen ah! who knew? I may just look into it.

Having lost nearly 2 stone recently I've also had to be refitted, but wear my new smaller bra under my sports bra which is the all in one kind (not a cupped type). I find this really helps, I've never found a bra that keeps me still enough.
Funny as I was wondering if I really needed it today! :p guess I do! ;)

there is another thread on this one - in General I think - the Riders bra, and the consensus seems to be the Triumph Doreen - actually available on ebay! In those funny lingerie shops (no, not THAT funny!)
Main drawback is its pointy.... apparently
