Hello. I hope to take my mare to a local show just to try my hand at in-hand showing...only problem is that our leading is too fantastic.

The show will be on grass which makes it worse as she tries to lurch for the grass. If I say no and pull the rope she will listen but she will constantly be putting her down.

Also, when we are leading she can be quite clumsy (standing on my feet) and tends to lean on me or just walk into me...she doesnt drag me anywhere and she doesnt plant her feet,(in fact, most of the time I'm further ahead then she) she doesnt really concentrate and my aids arent clear.

How can I possibly present ourselves correctly and smartly if our leading is a shambles.

Any advice appreciated - thanks :)

How much time do you have to correct this problem before your show?

I have written an article on my thoughts on leading training (which IMHO is the basis for all ground manners) Virtually Horses Leading Article (http://virtualhorse.freewebpage.org/leading.html)
