stable lighting

Hi there,

This is probably going to sound like a really stupid question, but what is the best sort of lighting to use in stables?

Redmire are arriving next week with my new stables, followed by the electrician later on to install the electricity but it's just dawned on me that I haven't bought any light fittings yet.

Any recommendations (it's something I've never really thought about before...)

We use mercury or soduim discharge low-bay (sp) lighting in the indoor school and my horse shed. It uses huge light bulbs but they are reliable and bright.

Tubes are a pain if the starter goes and ordinaty bulbs don't seem to last.

I use tubes & have had no bother. Remember to put the switches in a place where the horse can't turn them on :D

My dad suddenly started replacing the stable bulbs with low energy ones some time last winter. Which is fine only they take a while to warm up and sometimes are only just getting there by the time we've done what we're out there for !!

What ever light fitting you get, make sure it has a sensible cover so its heat and shatter safe...

We use tubes and their fine. We don't usually need to have lights on in the barn during the day though, as wel have plenty of windows and open doors. cheapest lighting I've ever seen are windows, nice and reliable most times :p
