could someone tell me the purpose of sheepskin nosebands? I often see them on Showjumpers and race horses. I'm guessing they are to influence vision similar to blinkers, but I'm not sure and I'm curious

they encourage the horse to lower its heador are used on horses with sensitive faces

for use on horses who tend to throw their head up , the sheepskin means they have to lower their head in order to see over it.

Cheers :) I knew it had to be something to do with vision.

if the horse raises its head, then it can't see over the sheepskin, hence if it wants to see, it has to lower its head ;) i used to use one on toby when he was a bit younger as he was a bugger for throwing his head about and i didn't want to use a martingale on him. old pony used to have one for jumping as we'd approach fences with his head very high.
