Any Tips to liven up jumping equipment that include planks, poles and standards in a Hunter way without painting them?
Should I just buy fake flowers or something?
This is just to help my horse overr come spooking at new hunter style jumps... :)

You could go to a home decoration store or a gardening store and buy some fake branches and either arrange them on the jumps by tying them to the poles, or stick them in pots/troughs/planters under or before the jumps as a fake hedge.
You could also buy miniature pine trees or bushes (fake or real) to hide the jump wings.
I'm imagining a schooling ring transformed into a fake forest right now :D

Oh! Those are some pretty good ideas... I Never thought of bringing pots... Hmmm... Will have to decide how to get this done. Perhaps I will get some others in on what I plan to do and see if they would like to help me turn the jumps into a hunter style....
Thanks! :)

if you go out and get some bows from pine trees (if you have them where you live) you can really use branches off any type tree) you can place them around, in and on your jumps.
you can take a tarp and place it under the jump to make it a "liverpool" haha
fake flowers also work
or you can get branches from trees and make more natural looking jumps. you can use hay bales under you jumps or around your jumps.
thats all i can think off other then painting cool designs

mm yeah, if you guys have a logging type place you could grab some tree stumps and get somebody to saw them up into different heights to make jump wings/supports and just put the rails on top of them, or put them under like a wood pile. I don't suppose logging places are easy to come by in the UK though.. a quarter of our garage is full of stacked wood for the winter and we still need to get more in before then!

Branches off trees, NZ rugs draped over poles, well secured bin bags as 'water trays' with the odd plastic duck ( yes see Peterborough Championship course 1996 plastic ducks in water tray :D ) Paint patterns on old sacks and drape over poles or wings. Tyres also can be used in lots of ways

try draping a big piece of carpet or tarp (or your horse's rain sheet! :p ) over the jump rail to make it look like a spooky hill jump. also try jumping spooky jumps without standards. i used to have my students jump hay bales and piles of leaves in the arena with road pylons instead of standards. have fun!!

Anything you can get you're hands on can be used. ;)
I've used:
1- Lines of feed buckets under the jump
2 - Rugs drapped over the top pole (straps carefully tucked away)
3 - Old christmas tree (obviusly not this time of year ;) )
4 - Some very elderly saddles (all broken) on the bottom pole with a top pole above
5 - scrunched up feed bags as fillers
6 - Line of ballons tied round the ground pole with another pole on top (helium if you can get them)
7 - Stolen (sorry, rehomed  ) road work red and white planks are brilliant.
8 - old plastic wheelbarrow
9 - feed bins(the plastic rubbish bin type) on their side make excellent barrel replacements
Basically anything thats not going to hurt the horse if they knock it and isn't valuable. However, I have an EXTREMLY bomb-proof horse. I jumped all those when I was preparing for the handy pony class at the local show. Now Pink'll jump ANYTHING she's set to. The wheelbarow did give her pause for though though :D

lol that made me chuckle. Must try and rehome some of those myself :D
Last time we did this we had fake flowers sticking out the sides, two plastic water drums underneath, road cones and the masterpiece, a scarecrow :p Coat stand with hat and jacket on. Be surprised how scary that was. Fell off because of that one :o But i was on a spooky 5 yr old and didn't use enough leg.

Duct tape comes in all sorts of colors and maybe you could create stripes on the poles with it. :)

WOW! There all really cool ideas! My muvas on the fone my uncle gettin him to nick some red and white traffic planks and cones lol. Preparing for gymcanas! I have really small fences with spikes on top like garden fence, maybe turn them upside down so the spikes aint showing, and balance them like beside the food buckets so if he does hit it, then he wont get stabbed and it will just fall down! Garden chairs on their side are really fun!
