Today has been one of the worst days for ages. While out on a nice gentle hack, my poor baby fell to her knees. This happened for no apparent reason whatsoever - the road was not wet or slippery, she was not playing up at all - she was just walking along quite happily and the next thing we knew she was struggling to her feet. Her knee (luckily just the one) is cut really badly, and also her nose is all cut where she scraped it along the ground. Quite how both knees weren't damaged, I don't know.
My friend, Gemma, was onboard - and luckily she is fine. Just a little shocked.
Also, as my girl is Hanoverian, her knees are quite chunky, so although the wound looks really nasty she has 'just' caused a really nasty wound and has not chipped or broken her bones as she would probably have done if she'd been a TB or something.
I've just been out to her and she seems alright in herself now, quite happily eating her supper so I guess that's as good a sign as any - but I'm on a bit of a state. I'm just so grateful that Gemma was there and not hurt, as she took control and hosed the horses' leg down and checked the wound while I unfortunately went to pieces.
I always use knee boots in icy weather, but you can obviously never be too careful. The way I feel right now, I would only be happy riding her out in full armour.
Please wish her luck, I hope she mends real soon.
