I almost didn't take Sauvy to my lesson on Friday. On Thursday my husband and I tried to practice walking her from the barn to the riding school and everything went wrong. The girth was still not the right size, so we took both horses out bareback. My husband tried to jump on Sauvy and landed on her butt by mistake. He scared her, she jumped and he fell off and really hurt himself. We also got stuck in knee deep mud trying a short cut.
Then on Friday when we got to the barn with no time to spare, both horses had rolled in the mud and were covered in it. Also someone had taken the key to the back gate, so we couldn't get onto the back dirt road and had to use the much busier and longer way along the main road. I was almost in tears. But my husband wouldn't let me give up, so we hosed the girls off, saddled up (finally with a right sized girth) and off we went, Abby and husband in front, Sauvy and me behind. Both mares were so good with all the traffic whizzing by. When one truck pulled over, I almost had a heart attack, but it was my trainer, calling "Looking good, see you in half an hour."
When we got to the school, I took my lesson on Sauvy, while Abby and husband watched from the side of the arena (too cute). Sauvy was a doll. Best lesson I ever had. She was so consistent and collected, my trainer told me she was lovely and I had chosen well. She even went over cavaletti like the other horses even though she had never done it in her life.
Then we still walked all the way back to our barn. Boy, was I tired. But I was so excited!! I am floating on a cloud. I love my horses!
